Letter From Jeff Smith

Flying Horse Hospitality, Canada

December 2019

Like many of you, my family and I have been longtime and frequent guests of the fishing camp for a number of years.  We have been visiting Athabasca Fishing Lodges since 1994. Over the years, I have developed wonderful relationships with Cliff and Stella, the fish camp guides and many guests.  When Cliff and I began discussing the purchase of the fishing camp several years ago, I viewed the venture as an opportunity to not only preserve the legacy the Blackmur’s started 47 years ago, but also to invest in a variety of upgrades and enhancements that I believe will attract new guests and ultimately benefit future generations of fishing camp guests.

As we embark on 2020, it is with great pleasure that my family and the team at Flying Horse Hospitality Canada announce that Blackmur’s Athabasca Fishing Lodge is now a division of the Flying Horse Hospitality family of businesses, which includes a luxurious 4-diamond golf resort and country club in Colorado Springs, Colorado and a working ranch with equine programs in Larkspur, Colorado. If you would like to learn more about Flying Horse Hospitality properties, please visit www.flyinghorsehospitality.com.

On behalf of the entire team at Flying Horse Hospitality, we are grateful to Cliff and Stella Blackmur for their continued support as we begin implementing the ownership transition. As part of that transition, I am pleased to introduce Shane Pogue as the manager in training.  Cliff has agreed to train and mentor Shane throughout the next several seasons. Together, with the Blackmur’s guidance, we will continue to deliver the one-of-a-kind Canadian fishing experience you’ve come to enjoy.

Reservations for the 2020 season are filling up quickly so if you’re considering booking a trip for upcoming season, we encourage you get in touch with us very soon. If you have already booked your fishing camp reservations for 2020 and beyond, we look forward to welcoming you back to Athabasca.

Sincerely,

Jeff Smith
